The International Criminal Court’s Chief Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda has declared that she will launch investigation into the alleged war crimes in the territory of Palestine. In her statement Fatou Bensouda said that she is satisfied that war crimes have been or are being committed in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip.

On the other hand, Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu furiously claimed, “International Criminal Court has no jurisdiction to launch this investigation because Israel is not a member of the court. Moreover, the ICC only has jurisdiction over petitions submitted by sovereign states. But there has never been a Palestinian state.”

However, Palestine, although not universally recognised as a sovereign state, became a recognised member of the ICC in January 2015, meaning they can request the court investigate crimes. The international community has widely discredited Israel’s claims over Palestinian lands.
